WaveLight® Plus LASIK is a next-generation laser eye procedure that uses the INNOVEYES SightMap™ diagnostic to build a 3D model of your entire eye (Alcon calls it an “Eyevatar”), and not just your cornea. This model incorporates real-time measurements of corneal curvature, lens position, internal optical aberrations, and axial length via optical biometry, allowing us to reshape your cornea with unmatched precision.
While earlier innovations like Contoura® Vision LASIK relied solely on corneal topography, WaveLight® Plus LASIK uses full-eye data and advanced ray-tracing algorithms for unmatched precision. In a randomized head-to-head trial, 48% of ray-tracing-guided (WaveLight Plus) eyes saw 20/12.5 or better at three months versus 5% of topography-guided (Contoura) eyes (Cao X, et al. J Refract Surg. 2024;40(12):e994-e1002), and in the two U.S. FDA trials, more WaveLight Plus eyes gained contrast sensitivity under glare, the measure that matters for night driving (40.0% vs 23.8%; Sitto MM, et al. Ophthalmol Ther. 2025;14(12):2983-3005).

In the peer-reviewed clinical study, 100% of eyes achieved 20/20 vision, 89% reached 20/16, and 50% achieved 20/12.5, better than 20/20 (He G, Bala C. J Cataract Refract Surg. 2023;49(11):1140-1146). In that same series, 39% of eyes ended up seeing better without correction than they had with glasses or contacts.
Because WaveLight® Plus measures and corrects imperfections across the entire eye, the goal is not simply 20/20 but sharper vision than glasses or contacts provided. In the head-to-head conference study, more than 80% of WaveLight Plus eyes gained a line of vision beyond their pre-surgical best (Kanellopoulos AJ, AAO 2025, conference presentation), and in a 400-eye real-world series, 39% did (He G, Bala C. 2023).
Halos, glare, and poor contrast in dim light are driven largely by higher-order aberrations, which older LASIK profiles could not measure in the whole eye and sometimes increased. WaveLight® Plus is designed to treat them. In a randomized contralateral trial, higher-order aberrations did not increase after WaveLight Plus while they rose after Wavefront Optimized LASIK (Khoramnia 2025), and in the FDA trial comparison more WaveLight Plus eyes had improved contrast sensitivity under glare (Sitto 2025). No laser procedure can promise freedom from night symptoms, but this is the platform built to minimize them.

Most patients achieve 20/20 vision or better within a day, allowing you to return to your daily activities with minimal downtime. In Dr. Feinerman’s own WaveLight® Plus series, every eye with a recorded three-month visit saw 20/20 or better (82 of 82 eyes), and half saw 20/15 or better; individual results vary.
WaveLight® Plus LASIK reshapes the cornea, offering patients long-term vision correction. The corneal reshaping is lasting: in the U.S. FDA clinical trial, refraction was stable by three months, and in an 800-eye series only 0.38% of eyes shifted by more than 0.50 diopter between the first and twelfth month (Shetty R, et al. WaveLight® Plus LASIK is designed for adults 18 and older with stable prescriptions who want clearer vision without glasses or contacts. It’s especially effective for patients with nearsightedness or astigmatism; candidacy is confirmed by the SightMap scan and a full examination at your consultation.
Dr. Feinerman generally does not recommend LASIK over 45; the aging lens, not the cornea, is usually the real problem. For patients in that range, refractive lens exchange or EVO ICL™ is often the better path, and the consultation is where that gets decided.
