What you pay depends on two things: the lens you choose and whether insurance covers your surgery. Below are our per-eye figures both ways, and exactly what each one includes.

Si elige la asistencia con láser de femtosegundo, el centro quirúrgico cobra $500 por ojo por los componentes de un solo uso del láser; nosotros no agregamos nada por eso.

All prices are subject to change. The figure you receive in writing before surgery is the figure that applies.

Why Cataract Surgery Cost Varies

Three choices set your number.

Insurance or cash. Insurance, including Medicare, generally covers cataract surgery when the cataract is visually significant. It does not cover premium lens upgrades or astigmatism correction, because they are not classified as medically necessary. The upgrade fee is the same for every patient; what differs is your deductible and coinsurance on the covered portion, which depend entirely on your plan. We verify your benefits before surgery and give you a written estimate.

The lens. A standard monofocal sets your focus at one distance, usually far, and you wear readers for near. Extended depth of focus lenses add a continuous range through intermediate, and trifocals add near vision as well. The Light Adjustable Lens lets your prescription be fine-tuned after surgery, based on your measured vision.

Astigmatism correction. If your cornea has meaningful astigmatism, correcting it is usually what makes a premium lens perform as intended.

If you do not have a cataract and are considering lens replacement to reduce your dependence on glasses, that is refractive lens exchange, and no insurance applies. Those figures are on our Página de costos de RLE.

What Your Cataract Surgery Cost Includes

Without insurance, the per-eye total covers:

  • La tarifa de las instalaciones quirúrgicas y la anestesia
  • La lente misma
  • All preoperative scans, measurements, and lens power calculations
  • The surgery, performed personally by Dr. Feinerman
  • Todas las visitas posoperatorias de rutina

When insurance covers your surgery, the facility, anesthesia, and the surgery itself are billed to your plan. The upgrade fee covers the premium lens, the advanced measurements and calculations it requires, and astigmatism correction if you choose it.

In either case there is no co-management arrangement. Dr. Feinerman performs your surgery, calls you the evening of surgery, and sees you himself the next day, so you are not paying a second provider to manage your recovery elsewhere.

Is a Premium Lens Upgrade Worth It?

For some patients, yes. For others, a standard monofocal with no upgrade fee is a very good outcome, and Dr. Feinerman will tell you when that is you.

The useful questions are practical: how much do you want to rely on readers, how much night driving do you do, and how important is it that your result can be adjusted later? Extended depth of focus lenses keep night vision close to a monofocal, while near vision may still need readers for fine print. Trifocals offer the fullest range and the highest rates of spectacle independence, with a higher chance of halos around lights at night for some patients.

If you have had LASIK, PRK, or RK, standard lens power calculations are less predictable, and the Light Adjustable Lens is usually the lens of choice. Our cirugía de cataratas después de LASIK page explains why.

Lens choice is personalized to your anatomy, your lifestyle, and your visual goals. No single lens is right for everyone.
