Yes! LASIK effectively corrects astigmatism up to about 6 diopters. Many patients with astigmatism achieve excellent results.
This condition (anisometropia) can often be treated with LASIK by correcting each eye for its specific prescription. During your consultation, we’ll evaluate whether you’re a suitable LASIK candidate for this type of correction.
Not necessarily. Family history increases your risk for certain conditions but doesn’t automatically disqualify you. We’ll evaluate your current eye health and monitor for any developing conditions.
It depends on the type of surgery. Previous LASIK or PRK may allow an enhancement if you have adequate corneal thickness remaining. Other surgeries, such as cataract or retinal procedures, require a case-by-case review to determine if you are a LASIK candidate.
LASIK creates a corneal flap that could theoretically dislodge from significant trauma, even years after surgery. For athletes in boxing, martial arts, rugby, or similar sports, we typically recommend PRK or the EVO ICL™ instead. Both correct vision without creating a corneal flap.
Daily computer use is not a barrier to LASIK. We’ll discuss temporary dry eye symptoms that can occur after surgery and ensure you’re a good LASIK candidate for your lifestyle, including strategies for managing dryness during healing.
